Who among you self-makers has never heard of the infamous Robin Red? I guess no one, I think it is impossible since we are talking about a truly evergreen ingredient: from the seventies to the present day, it has never ceased to make headlines.
Its effectiveness lies in the high percentage of spices, including curry, coriander and hot chilli pepper, which give it a strongly spicy taste. Spices play a very important role in carp bait because, in addition to giving it a strong and persistent taste, they aid digestion.
In addition, this product also boasts the presence of lycopene, canthaxanthin or red carophyll (at least in older versions), flavonoids and essential amino acids such as betaine lysine and choline.
As far as its use is concerned, we can safely say that this ingredient can be used all year round because in the warm season the huge amount of spicy oils present in it guarantee high levels of attraction, while in the cold season we can rely on its taste and digestive characteristics.
The optimal dosage is between 8 and 15% depending on the bait we are going to formulate.

The company that actually invented this product is called Haith's. It is a small family-run company that marketed this mash for ornithological use only in the 1960s. Only later, thanks to the interest it aroused in two fishing gurus of the time, Jan Boker and Rod Hutchinson, did it become one of the most widely used ingredients.
Why has this Robin red become so famous and catching compared to other similar mash?
The market, at least until around the year 2000, offered some alternatives, i.e. red mash with pigmenting ingredients capable of varying the colour of the birds' plumage.
However, all these products were far removed from the characteristics of Haith's product.
