Those who truly know and live the river understand very well that there are no boilies capable of replacing the natural food carp find in their environment. Still, when fishing in current or when pre-baiting over long periods, you need a different approach—and a river angler never stops trying to make his bait ball recognizable, nutritious, and something the fish can associate with a safe source of energy.
With this in mind, over the years carp anglers have developed hundreds of effective recipes, and through this article I’d like to share one of my own—created with the ambitious goal of building trust over time.
The dry mix
This is the heart of the recipe: a balanced, highly digestible mix with a firm structure, designed to allow rolling large quantities and to ensure good resistance in the current.
250 g re-milled durum wheat semolina
150 g toasted soy flour
150 g corn flour (TTX)
100 g milk powder
100 g liver meal
50 g Robin Red
200 g LT94 fishmeal
The liquid part
The liquid part is intentionally simple, yet highly functional. The real added value comes from the homemade liquid food, natural and consistent with the boilie concept.
6 medium eggs
30 ml homemade CSL
30 ml liver liquid food
Another key aspect to consider when doing heavy pre-baiting is cost. Using this recipe as a starting base, I developed another one with the aim of creating a complementary boilie to mix in varying percentages throughout the different pre-baiting phases, helping to reduce costs a bit.
Would you like more details on the low-cost recipe, how I make my homemade liquid foods, or how I plan my river pre-baiting strategy? Let me know!
